damnit i typed out something really neat and then hit the wrong button and it was gone.

hopefully the computer digesed it and is a tiny bit wiser.

umm it was about conceptual rift between the material world and our internal processes. thats what i'm groovin on nowadays. like, how can one reconcile the two, and not give precedence to either? cause sucess-oriented depressed businessmen give precendence to materiality, and crazy people give precendence to internal processes. i guess sanity is finding the balance... i sometimes feel that i can't express myself wholly with words. i guess this is why being an artist is important to me- a societally accepted way of expressing oneself without words. (like sometimes nonsense expresses more meaningfully than comprehensible symbols, WTF???)

i'm pretty sure everyone struggles with this rift between the two worlds- real and personal (mental/interior/emotional/whateveryouwannacallit). i am urious as to how people concieve of and (if possible) resolve it.

like i can only relate to you by mentioning something that we both share. something material or societal, like christmas. i got socks, underwear and chocolate.

(idea incompleted, see you later)

really satisfied with the arts i made for the last two critiques of the term. they were the only interactive ones in both classes (cept for a girl who drew icing on cupcakes). for design class i silkscreened a bunch of construction paper poster/flyers with circular designs centered on the corners, so each one could connect on each corner with 3 others sharing that design. i threw them up in the air and everybody tried to make them all connect. colorgasm. that one started out as a way to avoid doing schoolwork.
for drawing i photocopied parallel lines of varying widths onto transparencies, and layered them... hard to describe but you get a trippy effect when you move them around on top of eachother- some look like water rippling, some have moving/streching diamonds.
gonna go camping, probly three-mile lake near coast as soon as skool ends completely. mom asks, "how big is that lake?" uhhh, i'd say about... three miles.
I want to organize a game of capture the flag in that huge meadow by the river that's bounded by bike paths, and on east end I-5. (kinda near autzen) It's got so many trees, tall grass, hills & gullys, open flat spaces and dense brush. and lotsa bike paths so you could have bike scouts, and maybe a rubber raft or canoe in the canal on the north side. well, i don't want to organize it cause i have no organizational skills, i just want to play. walkie talkies & binoculars.
i also want people to do collaborative art of all media with.

So I may not stay here after this term is over. I don't think this is the right place for me- i'd have to slog through the rest of this year (all general education and introductory art classes) and only be able to take classes I want next fall. Coming home to eugene and teaching myself all the new processes i thought i'd learn here seems like a pretty good idea. i'm just not happy at this school and i'm not willing to wait almost a year (and go into debt) to start feeling creative and productive. Earning a degree is not a concern right now. i want to spend time making batik. so that's caused me a lot of anguish.

nic got susended for the term, portland got lonelier. no social or artistic fulfillment. Looking forward brightly to thanksgiving break, winter break, and beyond!

my roommate is a spaz and he stays up really late, but we complement eachother well. he's a doer (i am so very tired of boring teenagers that don't take initiative) and he thinks i'm cool. he's from albany and talks to his girlfriend several times a day on the phone (i've only called casey once). he's ADHD which means that if we're talkin about something i think is stupid or boring, the conversation will change itself soon enough. he's kinda selfish, but so am I so it works. he's a year older than me but i still feel big brotherly. i calm him down when he's frustrated, i'm the voice of reason. he cleans too.

he's not exactly a beacon of originality, but i'm so glad he's not a stupid faceless poser
